You know how hard it is when a family pet goes missing, and then actually stays lost. There is the moment when you have to explain what's going on to the children, the part where you have to paste signs across the neighborhood, and the worst element - the waiting for your beloved bed to hopefully find its way back home. But now something even worse is happening as these 'lost pets' are being picked up and sold to universities for dissection and medical research in its science labs.

It's bad enough to tell your children that Sparky is lost, but it'd be much worse to tell them that Sparky is being dissected by the college students downtown. The Humane Society estimated that about 18,000 dogs and cats are picked up each year and then sold to university laboratories. Some of these animals are found through classified 'looking for a good home' adoption listings, and some are lost pets.

Those who scoop up the stray animals and sell them to labs are called Class B Dealers, and it is estimated that there are fewer of them around today than in the past, but they are still around. These Class B Dealers scour the streets of neighborhoods looking for dogs and cats that may have become lost from their homes. They also search the classified ads for animals that have been listed for adoption. The Humane Society estimates that 20% of all animals that are used in medical research labs come from these Class B Dealers

Animal advocacy groups are now hoping that it will be made illegal to sell strays for scientific purposes. However on the other side of the coin, medical research labs are arguing that animals that come from unknown origins are not used in their testings. Animal advocacy leaders are hoping that a change will be imminent. They believe that only animals that are donated by their owners, are not strays, or are living in a shelter should be given over to medical research labs.

Right now the bill, entitled 'Buck's Bill' after a black hound dog who was mistreated by a Class B Dealer, is still up for debate in Congress. Many people treat their pets as part of the family, almost as if they're just another relative. It is heart wrenching when a pet becomes lost, but at least if Buck's Bill were passed it would be a much less likely scenario that the cherished pet would end up in a medical laboratory.

Today I am going to explain how to use internet for researching a paper. There are a lot of platforms on which you can research about whatever you want like Google, and Yahoo etc. I will prefer Google because it has bunch of staff for any single article. You can't select Wikipedia for research because it is not creditable. So now choose a topic lets say Target Marketing and I will tell you how to give the references for this topic.

First you need to open a web page and give the address www.google.com and write the name of the article Target Market. It will show a bunch of results about this. Just click on any link and start reading. Here is definition of target marketing. According to Susan Ward (2008) "Target Marketing involves breaking a market into segments and then concentrating your marketing efforts on one or a few key segments". This definition is of Susan Ward. It is updated in 2008. This is an example of citation in body.

Start the research for target by population, families, genders, occupations, educations, etc. this is demographic information. Now you will need geographic information like are people like to spend most time out door? What is the weather? Are these people conservative with their money? These kinds of researches will help to find target (Allbusiness, 2008). This is an example of online source. The name of website is all business. And it is updated in 2008.

Market research tell us price is not most important factor customers look at repair service, warranty, performance, and brand name etc. That means price is not enough to think about. Ever get a research assignment and not know how to do the research portion?  Well here are some tips for your problem from someone whose written countless papers.

First and foremost I recommend for any paper is get your hands on a good grammer handbook.  The one I used was the Longman Handbook, it was required for some courses.  Any paper is only as good as the grammer within.  You could write an outstanding paper, but if your grammar is poor, the your paper will reflect that.  Also get your hands on a handbook for both formats MLA and APA it will be useful when citing your information.

Second thing you should do is to find out everything ou need to know about the assignment.  Such as what's needed, allowed, and not allowed.  Some professors will allow charts, graphs, and even pictures.  I had a professor who loved that I added pictures of the novels I wrote about.

Next thing I suggest is DO NOT WAIT until the last moment to do the research.  You will only cause yourself to go insane.  It will cause so many problems, the books you may need may not be available, because everyone else is writing the same paper and need the same resources.  Also magazines in your field that have useful information may be tossed out because of age.

Make use of all the resources in the library, that includes talking to the librarians.  Librarians know alot more than  you think.  They could lead you to useful books and articles for your topic.  Do not rely solely on internet resources.  One you never know if the information is accurate, and 2 if all your information is from the internet you come off as lazy to the point that the internet looked for information, not yourself.  Make  use of journals relating to your field, you may have to do some reading, but they contain useful articles.

Narrow your search topic until you have a more concrete subject.  If the assignment is say trends in tourism, ask yourself  what kid of trends?  Trends in transportation, lodging, restaurants, activities and even locations could be some sub-topics for the paper which narrows your search based on the sub-topics.  Any topic could be divided into two or more subjects.  You also have a sort of organization for the paper.

When doing research use notecards.  Mark each one with a number.  The first note card is the book infor like author, publisher,  copyright date etc.  Anything found in the book would be 1.1, 1.2 and so one until you move to the second book. When writing the book notecards write the information according to citing them on the referance page, that way you can just copy the notecard. Hold on to all book notecards for future papers, it would be easy reference.  I would also write a few notes about what is in the book.

Lastly I would suggest keep talking to your professor about the paper.  They could easily give you advice and help direct you to useful books and articles that would would help yor search.  They could also give you ideas on how to proceed with the paper and if you're on the right track or not.

Following these tips could help make researching a paper all the more easier and less stressful.  You could improve your skills and wow your professors.

Middle School students love to explore the unknown and share what they have discovered. Take advantage of this natural curiosity about the unknown to develop research and presentation skills. Even reluctant learners get involved when you allow them to research and write about real life unsolved mysteries.

Pre-teaching: Before beginning this hands on project, students must understand the concepts of theories and evidence. It would be wise to choose a topic of your own and complete the project to share with students prior to assigning the project.

Skills Needed: To complete this project, students must be familiar with PowerPoint or any other slideshow presentation tool you choose to use. If they are not already skilled in this area, provide opportunities for students to work with the program.

Search Engines: This project relies heavily on Internet Research. Time must be devoted Internet search techniques.

Assessing web sites: Teach students how to determine if a website is reliable. Use this template or create your own.

Note Taking: Require Middle School students to take notes of their research. Spend time teaching students to paraphrase and summarize what they have read. Use this template or create one of your own for students to use.

Crediting sources: Middle School students don't really understand the importance of crediting their sources. Take the time to teach the basics of citing sources.

Plagiarism: This is a good time to teach about plagiarism. Many middle school students still think that if they change around a few words they are not plagiarizing. Take the time to teach them how to use information without plagiarizing. Make sure you emphasize that using photos created by others must be credited too.

Unsolved Mysteries Project

Provide students with a list of unsolved mysteries to choose from. (See suggested topics at the end of this article). Most students will find a suitable topic on the list. For those who wish to choose their own topic, insist that the topic be approved by you prior to beginning.

Minimum Requirements:
Slide 1: Title slide containing the "unsolved mystery", student name, and date.
Slide 2: Introductory slide: The mystery must be introduced with an explanation of why it is a mystery. This should include a statement of opposing views or beliefs.
Slide 3: Supporting theories
Slide 4: Opposing theories
Slide 5: Evidence (photos, news reports, witnesses, police reports)
Slide 6: Conclusions, which includes the student's belief based on the information provided in their project.

You need to speak to the owners of the business instead of just an employee since the owners does know exactly what goes on from day to day in the business.

2. See how profitable it is. You want to make sure that that the type of business that you want to start will make you enough money. The important thing is to consider if it is worth it depending upon how much time and energy you have to put into it. If the other businesses in the area are struggling to keep their doors open each day then it probably isn't a good idea since those other businesses don't generate enough sales or services rendered.

3. Can your company be better than the competition? You need to ask yourself that question. If every person in town always want to go a certain company for a certain item or even service then you need to become better than the competition. You want your customers to think that your company is better than your competition even with excellent customer service and cheap prices.

4. Does the type of business that you are interested in starting require a lot of funding in the beginning? Some companies are cheaper than others to start in the beginning. You need to figure out if you will have enough money for advertising and all the other expenses. You want to have enough money saved in the bank for your personal use too besides money for business. It is important to able to support yourself for basic living expenses along with being able to have enough money for your business too.

5. Will you be able to generate enough sales? Is their enough people in the city or town to offer services or items to the customers? You need to think about it. If your competition doesn't have a website then make sure that you have a business website. You always want to offer the next best thing or something else that they don't offer. If your competition doesn't offer credit accounts then you probably should offer credit accounts to business owners and individuals. You want to be different than your competition. If your competition doesn't advertise on radio then you need to advertise on radio.

You need to go to the city to look all the new companies that have been started recently within the last few years. Make sure to see how many of them ever renewed their business license. Look to see how many companies haven't been successful in the same field that you want to start a business in. You want to see many companies have been successful offering the same type of products or items. The records will give you a general idea of how well your company should succeed.
